On the trip over we stopped in Brunei for a few days. Breunei is quite a small place (pop. 300,000 or so) but there is enough to see to keep you entertained for a few days. As kiwis you dont need a visa for only a small trip which is good. The temperature was a constant 30 degrees C and humidity was very high. They pay no tax in Brunei.
The country revolves around the musliem religion (about 70%) which means there are lots of mosques. The sultan is one of the richest men alive so these mosques can be quite spectacular.
This next one was built by the current sultain and has 29 real 24c gold domes. Wow!
Meet Mr Dong. He showed us around for a few hours.
One the other side of the coin there are these pretty scummy water villages where 30,000 live in the habour. They all shit directly into the water then go fishing. Go figure. My advice, dont eat to much fish. Look close and you can see a sky dish on one of the old houses.
